About
The First Note
I started building guitars after discovering that I couldn't afford the guitars that I liked on the wall of the local shop, and that most of the name brand guitars simply did not live up to my expectation of build quality. One guitar has led to another, and since I don’t have room for all the guitars I have in my head, I now find myself building for others who appreciate my work. Along the way I have expanded to mandolins, ukuleles, and all aspects of repair work.

Currently, setups and repairs are the core of my work. If you've never had your guitar set up properly, then you will be in for a treat. Even an inexpensive instrument can be made to play and sound better. Top cracks, broken headstocks, loose braces, refrets, etc. are common tasks. I take pride in my work and stand behind it. If you are not satisfied, I'll strive to make it right, or not take your payment.
As building and repairing instruments has moved from a hobby to a part-time endeavor, I’m happy to take on the sorts of repairs that usually just don’t make sense to do. Saving a treasured instrument is a worthwhile cause in my book.

I take on a few big projects each year. So if you are interested in having a custom guitar made, or have an instrument in need of repair, shoot me an email (tony@mountainwhimsy.com) and we can talk.
