Chasing Frequencies
Taking the next step in making great sounding guitars. Diving into the mechanics of sound from the start of the build. You can get into the weeds pretty quickly as you chase resonant frequencies in search of the perfect tone, only to find that the next step changes everything. But understanding where the sound is coming from, and what good sound "looks" like early in the process will hopefully result in even better instruments.
If anyone really wants to get into the mechanics of sound on a guitar, I recommend the Trevor Gore/Gerard Gilet 2-book offering Contemporary Acoustic Guitar Design and Build. The first book is mainly Gore and his deep dive into sound generation on a guitar.
The images below are the "free plate" tap tones from my latest OM. I'm just closing up the box now, so I'll follow up with the comparison of free plate and closed box.
